Dhaka: The Bangladesh government is strongly focusing on recruiting 2000 doctors. This recruitment will happen through the 48th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. The Public Service Commission (PSC) has been asked to speed up this process.
Sources at the PSC and the Ministry of Public Administration confirmed this news. The government wants the 48th BCS circular published quickly. They also want the entire recruitment process finished fast. The PSC is working hard to make this happen.
A PSC official involved with the 48th BCS plans spoke about the process. He said, “We received the request from the government to hire 2000 doctors through the 48th BCS.” He added that some rules need minor changes for this recruitment. Usually, changing rules takes about three months. This is because many ministries need to give their opinions.
However, to speed things up, the proposal was sent directly to the Chief Advisor. “We understand he has already approved it,” the official mentioned. Once the formal approval for the rule change arrives, the PSC will quickly publish the 48th BCS circular for hiring these 2000 doctors.
The PSC official expressed hope, stating, “We aim to finish publishing the circular, conducting the exams, and completing the recruitment by June or July.” He confirmed that there are government instructions to work fast. The main point is that the government is prioritizing the recruitment of 2000 doctors via the 48th BCS.
It is becoming clear that this plan to hire 2000 new doctors will be the 48th BCS. PSC Chairman Mobasser Monem recently indicated this direction. Whether it’s a new general BCS or a special BCS, the focus is shifting towards making this the 48th Special BCS for doctors.
Professor Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor (Health Ministry), also confirmed the decision. He said the recruitment of 2000 doctors through a special BCS aims to increase the number of doctors in the country. Speaking at a press conference, Prof. Rahman mentioned another proposal. The current age limit for doctors taking the BCS exam is 32. There is a proposal to increase this age limit to 34 years.
Prof. Rahman also spoke about recent issues. He noted that doctors had recently gone on strike over pay and allowances. He said this was due to long-standing frustration from the time of the previous government. He assured that the current interim government is serious about the doctors’ demands. He stated the government would try to fulfill these demands soon through specific decisions.
When asked why a new BCS is preferred over hiring from waiting lists of previous BCS exams (like the 39th or 42nd Special BCS), a PSC official explained the reasoning. He said those exams were held some time ago under the previous government. Hiring from those lists now might create controversy. Therefore, recruiting through a fresh, new BCS (the 48th) is seen as a better option. He believes a new BCS will avoid any potential disputes.
The focus remains firmly on preparing for the 48 BCS Circular and the subsequent recruitment drive.
