Dhaka, Bangladesh – The entire nation of Bangladesh continues to rally in prayer for beloved cricketer Tamim Iqbal, who suffered a heart attack yesterday during a Dhaka Premier League match while leading Mohammedan Sporting Club.
The 36-year-old experienced severe chest pain before Mohammedan’s match against Shinepukur at BKSP. He was immediately rushed to the nearby KPJ Specialized Hospital in Gazipur. Doctors swiftly attended to him, discovering a complete blockage in his main artery after an angiogram. A stent was successfully placed to clear the blockage at KPJ Specialized Hospital.
While doctors at KPJ Specialized Hospital initially planned to keep Tamim under observation for 48 hours, with the first 24 hours being critical, his family has decided to transfer him to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. He left KPJ Hospital via ambulance after Iftar this evening and will continue to be under observation at Evercare.
Russell Hossain, the in-charge of the Cardiac Care Unit at KPJ Specialized Hospital, confirmed the news of the transfer, stating that it was a family decision and Tamim will remain under observation at Evercare. Doctors at Evercare will conduct further examinations to determine the subsequent course of treatment.
Thankfully, Tamim Iqbal has regained consciousness and is able to communicate with his family. This positive development has brought immense relief to his devoted fans across the country.
Numerous prominent figures have voiced their support. Longtime teammate Shakib Al Hasan shared a heartfelt message, urging everyone to pray for Tamim Iqbal’s swift recovery. Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh also conveyed his best wishes.
While doctors initially indicated that Tamim Iqbal’s condition was improving but the next 48 to 72 hours would be crucial, the latest development sees him being moved for continued monitoring and further assessment. The earlier prognosis suggested a recovery period of at least three months before a return to normal activities, including sports.
Tamim Iqbal, who retired from international cricket earlier this year after a remarkable career representing Bangladesh in 391 matches and scoring over 15,000 runs, remains the only Bangladeshi cricketer to have scored centuries in all three formats of international cricket.
The news of Tamim Iqbal’s heart attack has deeply affected the cricketing world. The entire nation stands firmly behind their hero, Tamim Iqbal, during this time, hoping for his speedy and complete recovery.
