Sylhet: Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has changed its admission schedule for the 2024-2025 academic session. The admission process will now start on April 22. It was previously set to begin on April 17.
The university announced this change on its admission website. They mentioned “unavoidable reasons” for the delay.
Along with the date change, SUST has also reduced the admission fee. This decision comes after students protested against the initially announced fee.
The original admission fee for the SUST Admission 2025 (2024-2025 session) was 17,000 Taka. Students felt this amount was too high. They expressed anger and demanded a reduction.
Some students threatened action if the fee was not lowered. They warned they might surround the registrar’s building. They also threatened to stop the admission process. Student organizations like the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir at SUST also supported the call for lower fees.
In response to these demands, the university authorities decided to lower the fee. The new admission fee is now 14,900 Taka. This is a reduction of 2,100 Taka from the originally announced amount.
This decision was made in an emergency meeting of the Academic Council on April 11. The Acting Registrar, Syed Salim Mohammad Abdul Qadir, confirmed the new fee structure.
Interestingly, this new fee of 14,900 Taka is also lower than last year’s fee. For the 2023-2024 academic session, the admission fee at SUST was 18,000 Taka.
Students preparing for the SUST Admission 2025 process should take note of the new starting date (April 22) and the reduced admission fee (14,900 Taka). Information is available on the official SUST admission website.
