Dhaka, April 28, 2025: Model Meghna Alam has received bail. A court in Dhaka gave the order today, Monday. The case against her involves fraud and extortion charges.
The court decided to grant bail after hearing her request. It considered that she is a woman when making the decision.
Police arrested Model Meghna Alam earlier this month. The arrest took place on April 7th. She was taken from her home in the Bashundhara area of Dhaka.
Initially, a court ordered her to be held for 30 days. This detention was under the Special Powers Act. Later, police officially showed her arrested in connection with the Dhanmondi police station case.
Model Meghna Alam is known for winning a beauty title. She won the Miss Earth Bangladesh competition. This happened on October 5, 2020. Besides modelling, she is also the chairperson of a non-profit group. This organization is called the ‘Miss Bangladesh Foundation’.
Her arrest under the Special Powers Act caused discussion. Many people talked about it on social media. This happened during the time of an interim government.
Police have accused Ms. Alam of being involved with a criminal group. However, Model Meghna Alam has denied these charges. She stated her denial when speaking to the court.
She is now out on bail while the case continues.
