Dhaka, Bangladesh – April 16, 2025 – Dhaka University (DU) has decided to conduct a re-examination of the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) portion of the undergraduate admission test for certain students of the Business Studies Unit for the 2024-25 academic year. This re-test, scheduled for May 17, 2025, applies specifically to applicants who completed their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in the Business Studies stream.
The decision was made during a special meeting of the DU Online Admission Committee on Wednesday, April 16, following a court directive regarding irregularities found in the initial test. The university’s public relations office confirmed this in a press release later in the day.
However, applicants to the Business Studies Unit who completed their HSC in the Science or Humanities (Arts) streams will not have to retake the test. Their results, based on the original examination held on February 8th, 2025, will be published tomorrow, Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
Students from the Science and Humanities streams who pass the Business Studies Unit admission test will be able to fill out their detailed forms and subject preferences until April 19, 2025.
The re-examination for the HSC Business Studies stream students is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 17, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM.
This development resolves the suspension that had previously halted the publication of all results for the unit. The initial test on February 8th was marred by irregularities, with reports indicating discrepancies (“goromil”) in 12 MCQ questions across different sets provided to the Business Studies stream candidates.
Following the discovery of these errors and alleged inaction by the university authorities on student complaints, a writ petition was filed in the High Court. In late March (previously reported around March 19th, though the Bengali text mentions an attempt to publish results on April 20th being stopped by the court), the High Court issued a stay order, initially reported as lasting two months, preventing the university from publishing the results, which were originally anticipated around March 20th.
The court’s subsequent directive specifically mandated the re-evaluation or re-examination for the affected group (HSC Business Studies stream students), leading to today’s decision.
The results for the Science and Humanities stream applicants, to be released on April 17th, can likely be checked via the previously announced methods, once activated:
- Via the university’s admission website: https://admission.eis.du.ac.bd
- Via SMS by typing DU BUS ˂roll no˃ and sending it to 16321 from Teletalk, Robi, Airtel, or Banglalink numbers.
Approximately 41,000 students initially participated in the admission test for the 1,050 seats available in the Business Studies Unit for the 2024-25 academic year. The university is now proceeding with a bifurcated approach to finalize the admission process for the unit based on the students’ academic backgrounds and the court’s guidance.
