Comilla: Comilla University (CoU) is set to begin classes for the 2024-2025 first-year undergraduate programs on Tuesday, July 1. This was confirmed in a notice issued on Monday, June 16, signed by the university’s Registrar (Acting), Professor Dr. Mohammad Alemayor Hossain.
Following the completion of the initial admission phase, a total of 391 seats remain vacant across three units. To fill these positions, the university has called upon students from the merit and quota lists to confirm their admission.
According to the notice, selected candidates must confirm their admission by uploading the necessary documents to the university’s web portal between 12:00 PM on June 18 and 11:59 PM on June 19.
New Merit Ranks Called for Admission
The merit ranges for candidates called to confirm their admission are as follows:
‘A’ Unit (Faculty of Science and Engineering):
- Faculty of Science: Merit positions 101 to 250.
- Faculty of Engineering: Merit positions 214 to 300.
- ‘B’ Unit (Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Social Science, and Law):
- Faculty of Humanities: Merit positions 362 to 550.
- Faculty of Social Science: Merit positions 77 to 450.
- Faculty of Law: Merit positions 48 to 100.
- ‘C’ Unit (Faculty of Business Studies):
- Faculty of Business Studies: Merit positions 294 to 400.
Vacant Seat Details (After First Phase)
In the first round of admissions, 639 students secured their places. The breakdown of vacant seats is as follows:
- ‘A’ Unit: 151 seats are vacant (199 admitted out of 350 total seats).
- ‘B’ Unit: 143 seats are vacant (297 admitted out of 440 total seats).
- ‘C’ Unit: 97 seats are vacant (143 admitted out of 240 total seats).
Admission Process Overview
This year marked a significant change as Comilla University conducted its own admission tests after a four-year break from the cluster (Guchchha) admission system. The admission tests for the ‘A’ and ‘C’ units were held on April 19, and the ‘B’ unit test took place on April 25.
For this academic session, the merit list was prepared based on a total of 120 marks, with 100 marks from the admission test and the remaining 20 marks allocated based on candidates’ GPA scores from their SSC and HSC examinations. The university received 66,402 applications for its 1,030 seats, with approximately 64 students competing for each seat.
