Dhaka, Bangladesh – The Dhaka University (DU) Business Studies Unit (C Unit) admission test for the 2024-2025 academic year has been caught in a controversy. Following the admission test, which was held on February 8, 2025, a set of questions from the question paper faced objections from the participating students.
The students claimed that there were errors in the question paper. They informed the DU administration about this issue. However, the students alleged that the university administration did not take prompt action. As a result, the aggrieved students filed a writ petition with the High Court demanding the cancellation of the admission test.
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, a High Court bench comprising Justice Fatema Najeeb and Justice Shikdar Mahmudur Razee held a preliminary hearing on the writ petition. The court issued a rule and ordered the suspension of the result publication for two months. The court also asked why the admission test should not be cancelled and a fresh examination conducted.
To address this problem, the central admission committee of Dhaka University held a meeting today, Sunday, March 23, 2025. Sources from the meeting revealed that there was an initial discussion about organizing a new admission test for the Business Studies Unit. However, the final decision will depend on the verdict of the High Court.
Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, the acting registrar of the university, spoke to The Bangladesh Affairs about the situation. He stated that the university’s admission committee is waiting for the High Court’s decision. He also mentioned that the meeting focused on how to resolve the issue quickly in consultation with the court.
According to the acting registrar, most members present at the meeting expressed their support for holding a new admission test after the High Court’s ruling. However, the specific method for conducting the re-test will depend on the court’s directives.
The Dhaka University Business Studies Unit admission test took place on February 8, 2025. Approximately 41,000 students participated in the examination for 1,050 available seats in this unit. For the 2024-25 academic year, Dhaka University has a total of 6,010 seats across its five units. This year, a total of 329,000 students applied for admission to the university.
The High Court’s intervention has brought the admission process for the C Unit to a standstill. All eyes are now on the court’s decision, which will determine the future of these aspiring students seeking admission to the prestigious Dhaka University’s business studies program. The university administration has assured that they are prioritizing a swift resolution to this issue in accordance with the law.
