This victory marks India’s third ICC Champions Trophy title. It is also their second consecutive ICC tournament win, following their triumph in the T20 World Cup in 2024. Notably, this is India’s first ICC ODI title since their victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy, ending a 12-year wait for another major ICC 50-over trophy.
Following this momentous win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a significant bonus for the victorious Indian team. BCCI President Roger Binny, in a statement released on Thursday (March 20), revealed that the entire Indian contingent, including the cricketers, coaching staff, support staff, and the selection panel, will receive a bonus of ₹58 crore (over 81 crore in Bangladeshi Taka).
Mr. Binny stated, “Winning back-to-back ICC titles is a special achievement, and this reward recognizes the team’s dedication and excellence on the world stage. This financial reward also acknowledges the hard work put in by everyone behind the scenes. This is our second ICC trophy this year, as our women’s U-19 team also won the World Cup. These successes highlight the strong cricketing environment in our country.”
It is worth noting that for winning the ICC Champions Trophy, India received a prize money of USD 2.24 million from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Additionally, they earned USD 34,000 for each of their wins in the group stage. However, the bonus announced by the BCCI is considerably larger than the ICC prize money.
The entire nation of India is celebrating this historic win, recognizing the team’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament, which was held in a hybrid model across Pakistan and the UAE.
