The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) is set to begin distributing stipends and scholarships to students soon. Initially, the funds that are currently due will be disbursed. Following this, payments will be made to students newly added to the program.
Sources at the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) have confirmed this information.
Officials from the directorate have stated that complications have been resolved through meetings with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, and other relevant parties. A decision has been reached to initiate the disbursement of stipend and scholarship funds through the IBAS++ program.
As part of DSHE’s scholarship work plan, the government has set a target of awarding scholarships to 187,384 students in the current 2024-25 fiscal year. Among these, 169,659 students fall under the revenue sector merit and general scholarship quota. An additional 17,725 students, including those from minority communities, tribal groups, visually impaired, autistic students, and various vocational stipend recipients, are included under DSHE’s revenue sector. In total, approximately two lakh students will receive around BDT 190 crore 57 lakh 82 thousand in scholarships and stipends this year.
Beyond this, ongoing and announced scholarships across different levels provide support to 451,953 students annually. This program will continue this year. However, considering various complexities, DSHE aims to distribute student stipends and scholarships through its own software in the future. Efforts are underway to implement this system for student stipend distribution starting from the next fiscal year.
Professor Md. Ahtesamul Haque, Director General of DSHE, stated that the process of disbursing student stipends and scholarships has commenced. Outstanding payments will be initiated shortly, and new recipients will receive their stipends and scholarships in phases.
