Dhaka, Bangladesh – The Institute of Modern Language (IML) at Dhaka University (DU) has announced its admission for various language courses for the year 2025. IML is opening its doors to students who want to learn new languages. There are 16 different language courses available.
For the academic year 2025, IML will admit students to its Elementary Certificate Courses. These courses are for people who want to start learning a new language. For English, there are also Pre-intermediate and Intermediate level certificate courses.
Available Languages
IML is offering a wide range of languages. These are open to everyone. The languages include:
- Arabic (Modern)
- Chinese
- English
- French
- German
- Hindi
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean
- Malay
- Persian
- Russian
- Spanish
- Turkish
- Bengali (only for international students)
It is important to note that the English language courses are only for students who are currently studying or have graduated from Dhaka University.
Course Details
Each language course is designed to be completed in one year. The total duration of each course is 150 hours. Classes will be held for two hours at a time, two to three days per week. This schedule is made to be convenient for students and working professionals.
Eligibility for Admission
To apply for the language courses at IML, applicants must have passed the HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) or equivalent examinations. They need to have at least a second division, a B grade, or a GPA of 2.5 in their qualifying exams. This ensures that students have a basic educational background to benefit from the language courses.
How to Apply
Interested candidates can get their application forms in two ways: online and offline.
- Offline: Application forms can be collected from the Janata Bank branch at the TSC (Teachers-Students Centre) of Dhaka University. You can pay the application fee in cash at the bank to get the form.

Application Deadline and Fees
The last date to collect and submit the application form is February 27, 2025.
The application fees are different for current and former DU students.
- For current Dhaka University students: 500 BDT
- For former DU students and others: 700 BDT
Applicants who are applying online will need to upload a scanned copy of their passport size photograph and signature. Make sure the image size is less than 80KB.
